about

PCH-F006

In 2004, Derek Humphrey and Jonathan Garcia formed the band that would eventually come to be known as Charles! No Charles. At that time, they called themselves Tumblweed, a not-so-clever misspelling of "Tumbleweed" (in order to avoid copying the name of multiple Tex-Mex bands). Along with lead guitarist Patrick Fast, they recorded their first batch of songs, with Mike Hearn, who would eventually become the band's bassist, filling in on trumpet duties occasionally.
The Tumbleweed EP serves as a vehicle through which the first batch of songs recorded by the band that would be known as Charles! No Charles can be enjoyed in context.

Track Name: The Golden Age
It's so good to start the morning with a new can of worms;
Pop one on and throw it in and see if it squirms.
Toss the pass and take the grass and do it where it burns,
'Cause I love you,
And I love to do the things that I do.

The Moon rises on the open Sun,
And steals the light from everyone,
And I hear the sound of the smoking gun.

And why does it matter to me?
And why does it matter to you?
And how does it make a difference?
And what exactly does it do?

So close your eyes and criticize the world for what it's become,
And close your mind and open your ears to make your brain turn numb.
It doesn't matter to me,
'Cause now I'm out of the land of the free.
Track Name: I Know You Know
I know a face that shows,
Through the clouds and flows,
To the sea and below.

Walking on a Sunday Winter's eve,
Making it so I can't breathe.
When I start to see so slow,
I know you know.

Come on, come on, and show me the way,
To the end of the day.
Come on, come on, and give it away,
I'll do whatever you say.

I know you know.
Track Name: Is This Real?
Well I don't know whatever goes inside,
On my rolling mind.
I can't tell if this is real.
This is here now, but it feels.
Am I only, or am I not.
Candles messing with me, get taught.
We know the answers to this disaster.

Well ask again: well, is this real?
Is this how I feel?
With you by my side,
I cannot hide.
I cannot hide.

Well tell me the answer.
Tell me faster.
Well, is it?

Well, is this real?
Is this how I feel?
Is this all that I know?
Is this where I should go?
Is this really me, or me or you?
Can you please tell me, what should I do?
What should I do?
Track Name: Is This a Dream?
I am a dreamer, but I am real;
These pains and emotions I can feel.
I can see over your shoulder,
And you can too.

Is this a dream?
Is this what it all means?
Is this life?
Is this why I'm alive?
Well, is it?

I am here, so have no fear;
I have come to save the day.
Don't have a plan;
Won't need no action,
But I'll save it some way.

Is this a dream?
Is this what it all means?
Is this life?
Is this why I'm alive?
Well, is it?
Track Name: Passing Me By
Well the world is passing me by,
Walk around the streets and I don't know why.
People fly as I slide right on by.
Well turn out the lights,
And throw the trash.

Paper calls, says "Beware doll,
I might not be at all what you decide to follow."
"Fold my clothes, and eat my dinner,
And I don't know what keeps putting you on."

Well this ain't the world that you deserve,
And this ain't the guy you'll get in the end.
Well don't take me for a fool,
Or use me like a tool,
Because, me, I'll end up with some kind of rule.

Yes, I tell you,
I'll have no house-life.
